Popular culture can be defined by the latest technological toys, hippest name brands, and the current fashion icon. Popular culture, in my opinion, follows whatever generation believes to be the newest fad. It is not something that will be around in 15 years, it is what currently sells to the generations wants.
Popular culture is releavant to me in the business world because of the "green" movement. Since I work in the coatings industry my products are currently the new "fad". Saving the enviornment is a major project right now. Everyone from susie homemaker to the U.S. Government are taking the initative to save the earth.
I chose the picture with Daniel Craig from Casino Royale. I believe that he represents the icon that is James Bond. Daniel has began his journey as James Bond before he becomes 007. The reason I chose it wasn't because of him but what he represents. The history of Bond started many many years ago, Craig starts as Bond before Bond becomes an icon.
I live in a very rural area and there is only a small mall in the nearest town. You mention the hippest name brands - if i never saw another AE t-shirt I'd be happy!
ReplyDeleteMy dad also works as a tooling engineer for Whirlpool which is starting to change thier paints to eco friendly which is becoming a selling point for some of thier customers.
I work for a company that I wish would go green. We us enough paper in one day to kill a forest. We went to a new system that was going to be paperless. Well I have never seen so much paper used since then. I am glad to see that there are some companies that care about going green.
ReplyDeleteHi Dustan - when I first saw the picture with this post, I thought here was a classmate who also like to shoot. My husband has been teaching me how to shoot a revolver and in a couple of weeks, I plan on taking the concealed carry weapon class with him. We were looking at a Walther PPK a little earlier, and absolutely thought of James Bond.
