So this week I would like to make some comments on reality T.V. I went with this little nugget of pop culture to stay with last week’s work. So I am sitting with my family having dinner and watching television when a show named Rock of Love with Brett Michael’s comes on ( I am pretty sure that is how you spell it). Let’s just say that having a few beers will make this show even worse than it is sober.
I was amazed at what was I was seeing! A group of girls, some of which have more plastic in them then a Tupperware set, are all fighting for the chance to get with Brett Michael’s. This is quite possibly the dumbest show I have ever seen. I actually wanted my time back after it was over. For me to sum it up for everyone is easy and I can do it in two words…train wreck! First of all the guy is a washed up has been. The only reason he is still relevant is because of this show. Second, where do they get these girls from? Most of them look like they just of the pole. The clothes they are wearing or lack there of, is disgusting. They don’t look good wearing lingerie when they are trying to complete manual labor tasks. I don’t even know what to say anymore, I can’t believe that there is even a show like this on television.
I will say that I did watch the whole show. I had to see for myself that it was as bad as I thought it was going to be. Let’s just say it did not disappoint. Although I thought this was the dumbest show ever I can recognize that it has some form of entertainment value to some people. That is proven because it is still on T.V. To wrap up, I am calling Time Warner to have them cancel that channel from my monthly line-up!

Assignment 4-1
Okay, so let me start by saying I hope I don't offend anyone in our class. Bad things usually happen when you start out by saying that. This week I am writing about the infatuation with the WWE. Now, let's all think about this. I heard an interview on The Howard Stern Show where a guy was at a WWE press conference and actually cried when someone was retiring. I will say that again, he cried, HE CRIED! He told them that he appreciated what he had done for this country. For god sakes people, it is not real. What have these people done? I can sit back and say that they have provided hours of entertainment for certain groups of people...who will remain nameless. These actors (if you can call them actors) pretend to wrestle with other guys. By the way, the outfits are...... I will leave it at that. Spandex went out a very long time ago, time to let go. Anyway, I know that it is entertaining but come on, you guys don't think its real....do you? I think it is amazing the thing's in today's society that people are drawn to. One man's Discovery Channel is another man's Smackdown!

assignment 2-2
This week’s analysis is about the advertising of the mega blockbuster Dark Knight and advertising in general. The reason I am writing about this is because of the build up and hype surrounding it due to the untimely death of Heath Ledger. The media press that this movie gained from the tragic event was enormous. I can’t even begin to think about what the studio was saying when this frenzy began.
The beginning advertising was what you would expect from a blockbuster before its release. The fact that a star cast member passed away before the opening put the advertising into overdrive. I can say that I don’t believe that the studio would have exploited the situation but I can say that I believe someone there thought about it. It seems to me that with the amount of shows on T.V. today like Access Hollywood and Extra, this country feeds on drama and despair. I could very well be wrong but it seems this way to me. These shows exist for the sole purpose of exploiting celebrities business and their personal lives.
It is my opinion that this country should take a step back and say WOW! I am infatuated with this person’s life. I was in awe when I heard about the passing of John Travolta’s son and the lashing he took about how his religious beliefs may have caused improper care. Could it be that it may not be any of our business? It could be that this statement is true, but who am I or we to decide? Let’s take some time to remember that this country has bigger issues than someone’s religious beliefs and if they affected the care of a child.

assignment 3-1
This week I have chosen to write about the hands-free ear piece. This little miracle keeps the idiot next to me from changing lanes into my car while he is jaw jacking to someone. I can see the enormous advantage that this technology brings to commuters and to those who don’t talk on the phone while driving. Safety is the first and foremost priority while operating a motor vehicle.
That being said I am done complimenting this invention. We will now talk about the guy or girl who doesn’t seem to want to take the thing out of their ear while in a public place and not being in use. Let me begin by saying that you are not that important! If you are sitting in a crowded bar having a drink with co-workers, take it out. You look like an idiot. People like me are talking about you behind your back. It doesn’t make you look cooler than anyone else. It proves that you need the approval and attention of others. Seems harsh, I know, but this has to stop. No one wants to hear your conversation either. No one cares. Take it out and show some respect to those around you. If you receive a call while in public then excuse yourself and step outside. It seems that the people that should be in need of this gadget leave it in their car, it is the guy that looks like he just got done mowing a lawn that leaves it in and uses it in public.
Now I am not bashing anyone. I think its overall purpose is of importance, I’m just saying please take it out and leave it in the car. I hope that I did not offend anyone by this review. I have nothing but respect for the hard working American’s that utilizes this little gem of technology.

assignment 1-4
I am writing about the advertisement of the Nintendo Wii Fit in last Sunday’s Columbus Disgrace... I mean Dispatch. I really shouldn’t say that, it was in the Best Buy ad and just happened to be in the Columbus Dispatch.
The reason I am writing about this is because of the amount of money that we spend on trying to stay in shape. To me this is getting out of hand. Do we really need a toy that costs $90 to stay in shape or are we just buying it for the status it may or may not represent? What about the costly monthly memberships that we pay for to attend a gym? Here is a thought, quite eating so much and get off your ass and do something. Me, I am happy with my weight. I don’t need to buy the Wii Fit to exercise or pay monthly dues to go to a gym. If I want to lose weight I will do it the old fashion way…. I will have it sucked out. It seems to me that people stayed somewhat healthy before the rise of the fast food community came about.
Maybe what we should do is refocus our attention to baby steps. How about take a walk around the block once a week, then maybe two trips the next week. Instead of letting the dog out back why not take it for a walk, that way you both get some exercise. This is just my opinion and probably not a very good one at that but that is what makes America great…..everyone can have an opinion, it is up to you if you like it or not.

assignment 1-3
Here is a brief description of the article that I read. First of all, the articel is about the history of the bare-midriff. For us guys that means the area just above the pubic bone to just below the breasts of a woman....or a man. The article goes on the gvie the history of bare skin in society. In the 1940's the bikini came about by an effort to conserve fabric during the war. By the end of the article the author has described 60 years of who and why the midriff has been seen by. It wraps up in present day with examples of Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. The author uses them as examples knowing that they are objects of sexuality and not known for their in-depth conversaton skills. Overall it was a very interesting article that I would never read again.

Assignment 2-2

The three icons that I chose are The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park. I chose them because of the significance they have in today's culture. From the thoughless bumbling of Homer Simpson to a talking dog named Brian or even very small and round boys that look like snowmen, these three shows provide endless amounts of humor and a much needed break from reality.
I have to admit that I was not a big fan of Family Guy at first. I actually never gave it a try. I just grouped it with The Simpsons, which I can't stand. The only thing I can find funny or even amusing is the slams the network takes during the show. I think that the lowbrow humor is the best part of all three. Sometimes it is just funny to see someone fart or say something juvenile.
I would have to say that the icons mean nothing to me, however I do enjoy talking with the guys over a couple beers and quoting some lines from the shows. For me it is just a break from reality.

First assignment

Popular culture can be defined by the latest technological toys, hippest name brands, and the current fashion icon. Popular culture, in my opinion, follows whatever generation believes to be the newest fad. It is not something that will be around in 15 years, it is what currently sells to the generations wants.
Popular culture is releavant to me in the business world because of the "green" movement. Since I work in the coatings industry my products are currently the new "fad". Saving the enviornment is a major project right now. Everyone from susie homemaker to the U.S. Government are taking the initative to save the earth.
I chose the picture with Daniel Craig from Casino Royale. I believe that he represents the icon that is James Bond. Daniel has began his journey as James Bond before he becomes 007. The reason I chose it wasn't because of him but what he represents. The history of Bond started many many years ago, Craig starts as Bond before Bond becomes an icon.
