The three icons that I chose are The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park. I chose them because of the significance they have in today's culture. From the thoughless bumbling of Homer Simpson to a talking dog named Brian or even very small and round boys that look like snowmen, these three shows provide endless amounts of humor and a much needed break from reality.
I have to admit that I was not a big fan of Family Guy at first. I actually never gave it a try. I just grouped it with The Simpsons, which I can't stand. The only thing I can find funny or even amusing is the slams the network takes during the show. I think that the lowbrow humor is the best part of all three. Sometimes it is just funny to see someone fart or say something juvenile.
I would have to say that the icons mean nothing to me, however I do enjoy talking with the guys over a couple beers and quoting some lines from the shows. For me it is just a break from reality.

Dustan,
ReplyDeleteI found your thought on these icons very humorous. I could not agree more that it is nice to get away from reality sometimes. With the seriousness of the world it is nice to be able let loose.
Just the thought of these shows turns me off but I do understand the reasoning behind your comment that these shows offer a perspective different than reality. The people who watch these shows often think the same way. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go to work and tell your boss what you think of him or blow someone up just because you think they need it. I'm not condoning the actions that these shows are depicting, but it is nice once and a while to watch something that you know is not real...just kinda out there. For me it's just the opposite, I get LEARNING Cartoons like Handy Manny or Blues Clues instead of The Simpsons or Family Guy. Maybe one day I'll get to move on to Scooby Doo.
