assignment 1-3

Here is a brief description of the article that I read. First of all, the articel is about the history of the bare-midriff. For us guys that means the area just above the pubic bone to just below the breasts of a woman....or a man. The article goes on the gvie the history of bare skin in society. In the 1940's the bikini came about by an effort to conserve fabric during the war. By the end of the article the author has described 60 years of who and why the midriff has been seen by. It wraps up in present day with examples of Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. The author uses them as examples knowing that they are objects of sexuality and not known for their in-depth conversaton skills. Overall it was a very interesting article that I would never read again.

  1. The last line of your blog is comical...an interesting article that you'd never read again. It sounds like the subject matter was interesting, but after so many pages on the subject - probably not so much. If it's anything like my article, the author could have summed up their thoughts in far fewer pages!

  2. I could have done with about 4 pages.

  3. The segment from the article about the conception of the bikini resulting from textile shortages from WWII killed me!
Have you seen the amount of fabric it would have taken to assemble a single poodle skirt from the samre era? I wonder why the mini skirt took another 20 years to develop?

  4. When I was in my public speaking class at MTC, one the thing we had to do was use some kind of article to help in our speeches. One of the speeches we heard was about global warming. When the guy was wrapping up his speech, his last slide showed how global warming had changed the bathing suit. This was extremly funny since it starting with a head to toe cover up and ended up with a thong bikini.
This website can give you the same idea.

  5. I found it interesting that the bikini came from the shortage of fabric during WWII. I would have to agree that the article could have been summed up in less pages. I can see where you would not want to read it more than once.

  6. I liked the facts in the article, like the history of the bikini but just like the midriff, could have done with a little less. :-)

  7. Great summary. I think that would be a pretty interesting article to read. I am shocked to hear that the bikini resulted from a way to conserve fabric. I would never have thought that was the original reason. I guess you learn something new everyday. Good job.

  8. I didn't realize the bikini was due to shortage either. Who summed up the Brit-Brit and Jessica Simpson sex objects not intellectuals theory - that could be one of a dozen articles :)

  9. Whoever originally wrote the bikini was due to a fabric shortage was undoutedly reported by a man. What is it attributed to in today's world because there is an overbundance of material. It amazes me with the number of offices who allow midriffs to be shown in offices. I have always said if someone wants to understand the female body all they have to do is sit on a bench at lunchtime in downtown and they will not have time to eat lunch for all they can see.

  10. I agree with Karen. Not only will you not have time to eat your lunch, you probably won't want to.....
